The German automotive supplier ZF Friedrichshafen and the Swedish tool manufacturer Sandvik Coromant have elevated their long-standing collaboration to a new level. In close cooperation, the two companies have developed an innovative hard turning process for a drive bevel gear, creating much more than a technical solution: a forward-looking model for strategic partnerships.

Process planner Bernd Pieringer, project manager Martin Ratzinger (both ZF) and Thomas Hutsteiner (Sandvik Coromant) agree: The successful collaboration should be continued and expanded. Image: Sandvik Coromant

From the first idea to series production, the teams from both companies worked hand in hand. Open exchange of ideas, joint development, and mutual inspiration characterized the project and led to a smooth integration into production. The results speak for themselves: higher efficiency, more process reliability and quality, as well as transferable successes at other locations. Moreover, the initially realized process as an individual customer solution could be further developed by Sandvik Coromant into a standard. Its name: CoroTurn TR Hard PrimeTurning.

For the ZF plant in Thyrnau, Bavaria, and the project participants from Sandvik Coromant, this technological milestone also marked the starting point for further joint innovations, particularly in the field of e-mobility. Both partners are convinced that the major challenges of the industry can only be mastered in the future through trustworthy, strategically oriented collaborations.

With their successful collaboration, ZF and Sandvik Coromant have created a best-practice example that shows how innovation power, mutual trust, and industrial know-how can be combined to create sustainable competitive advantages. This joint success story is to be continued in the future.
