With the new indexable insert drill Drion·tec D-Spade D5142, Walter is launching the world's first drill of this type with double-sided indexable inserts. The special feature: The clearance surface of the first cutting edge serves as a support surface for the second – which doubles the lifespan of the indexable insert and significantly reduces the cost per drilled meter. The drill, designed for maximum cost efficiency, is suitable for diameters of 12 to 32 mm and lengths of 3 to 8 × Dc. Four guiding phases and the self-centering tip geometry ensure high precision and surface quality of the hole: with exact centering, straightness, and diameter tolerance.
Ground and polished chip spaces optimize chip transport and increase process reliability. Six coolant outlets ensure precision cooling on the side cutting edge, main cutting edge, and circumference at both teeth. The combination of fine-grain substrate and the gold-colored HiPIMS coating of the DS42 indexable insert enables very good wear resistance as well as easy wear detection. The symmetrical design of the double-use indexable inserts not only doubles the tool life, but also reduces the amount of carbide used per cutting edge by 45% compared to conventional drills. This positions Walter's Drion·tec D-Spade D5142 as the new standard for cost-conscious and sustainable drilling – particularly suitable for mass producers with steel and cast materials, such as in the automotive industry, energy sector, or rail vehicle industry.
