There are various ways to produce threads. Depending on the task, material, and machine park, they can be turned, drilled, punched, or milled. Particularly the latter option is the process of choice for many machinists. However, since the user has to process the thread with a standard thread mill in several passes, the process takes relatively long and often involves high bending loads.
To counteract this, ISCAR introduces the two innovative thread mills QUICKMTHREAD and SOLIDMTHREAD as part of its LOGIQUICK campaign.
Faster, better, longer

The QUICKMTHREAD works with triangular indexable inserts that are arranged in multiple rows on the tool. This design reduces cutting forces, increases dynamic stability, minimizes bending stress, and significantly reduces processing time. Instead of moving into the hole and milling the entire thread with just one tooth, the user can process multiple thread sections simultaneously with the three effective cutting edges of the QUICKMTHREAD.
In the process, they only need to bridge the spaces between the individual tooth rows depending on the pitch. This reduces processing time by 50 to 80 percent. Additionally, the user can already mill to the final depth in one pass. The direct internal coolant supply to the respective cutting edges ensures very good chip control and allows for a long tool life.
Users can employ the QUICKMTHREAD in ISO-P, -K, -N, -S, and -H workpiece materials for thread nominal diameters starting from 24 millimeters and pitches from 2.5 to six millimeters. The mills are available in diameters of 20, 25, 30, 36, and 42 millimeters. They are equipped with three-flute cutting inserts made from the most wear-resistant, TiAlN PVD-coated fine grain type IC908. The cutting inserts have an optimized cutting geometry for a smooth cut and high surface quality. Additionally, they are resistant to notch wear and built-up edge formation.
Specialist for heavy machining
Specifically for precise thread milling in hard-to-machine workpiece materials with very high surface quality, ISCAR has developed the SOLIDMTHREAD. For constant dimensional accuracy, the multi-row solid carbide mill with unequal tooth spacing features a vibration-damping, rigid geometry. Its central coolant supply lowers temperatures at the cutting edges and ensures very good chip evacuation from the hole. As with the QUICKMTHREAD, the user processes multiple thread sections simultaneously and can thus introduce threads significantly faster and in just one pass.
The SOLIDMTHREAD is available in the TiAlN PVD-coated fine grain type IC908 and can be used in ISO-P, -K, -N, -S, and -H workpiece materials with a hardness of up to 48 HRC. Users can find the appropriate tool for the machining task. The SOLIDMTHREAD is available in diameters from three to 13 millimeters and allows ISO pitches between 0.7 and 2.0 as well as UN profiles in nominal diameters starting from three millimeters.
QUICKMTHREAD and SOLIDMTHREAD offer users significant advantages in thread milling: The process is significantly faster – with higher tool life, process reliability, and better quality.
