After the launch of the innovative PKD face mill 'MX diamond', the demand for a face mill for additional materials was high. URMA AG has fulfilled customer requests and utilized its long-standing expertise in product development. The result is MX boronite, a modular cutting tool that offers the proven and extremely precise RX quick-change separation point to ensure perfect flatness without readjustment during tool change. Thus, URMA relies on the same technology as with MX diamond.

The cutting edges of the solid carbide cutting body are equipped with up to 10 CBN tips (cubic boron nitride) and are ideally suited for machining hard and abrasive metals. CBN is the second hardest material after diamonds. CBN tools wear significantly slower than other cutting materials. This not only allows for higher shape and dimensional accuracy but also ensures process-safe machining of hard materials (steel over 60 HRC).

MX boronite belongs to the latest generation of face mills and ensures lean production processes and automated manufacturing. With a feed rate of 0.05 to 0.3 mm per tooth and a cutting speed of up to 3,000 m/min, the MX boronite is ideally suited for series production. Various geometries are available to meet individual requirements.

MX boronite at a glance

• Quick-change system for easiest handling

Thanks to the precise change accuracy of <0.005 mm runout and <0.008 mm flatness, time-consuming adjustment of the flatness is not required for the user. The cutting edge can be replaced in less than three minutes, saving up to an hour of downtime compared to similar face mills.

• High-hard CBN cutting materials

The use of CBN (cubic boron nitride) ensures top-notch tool life, surface quality, and process reliability.

• Machining of cast materials and hardened steel

Since CBN cutting materials do not chemically react with carbon or other alloying elements, MX boronite is ideally suited for machining powder metallurgical materials, hardened steels, and cast materials.

• High rigidity through carbide cutting body

The CBN-tipped carbide cutting body has very high tool rigidity, preventing vibrations and micro-breakouts at high speeds. This increases tool life and the quality of the components.

• High cutting speed with high feed

Thanks to its high cutting speed and generous feed, MX boronite is ideally suited for high-speed milling and meets the highest demands for surface quality and precision.

• Best surface quality

The highly precise flatness guarantees perfect surface quality, even with high tooth feed.
