Renishaw, a leading global manufacturer of measurement and manufacturing systems, presents its latest groundbreaking solution for process control in manufacturing with the Equator-X 500 Two-Method Measurement System. This innovative product combines two testing methods in one device: an absolute mode and a comparative measurement. Manufacturers worldwide can choose the optimal testing method based on the requirements of their respective manufacturing processes.

The Equator X measurement system has been specifically developed for manufacturing environments with high variability and frequent design changes. In such applications, measurement systems are required that offer high testing speed, flexibility, and ease of use to keep pace with machining capacities. The main advantages are an increased measurement throughput due to high-speed measurement; a fully traceable verification of parts within the production environment; continuous validation of the manufacturing process; and the flexibility to choose the optimal measurement method for each application in a single device.

Speed and Flexibility

The selectable absolute and comparative measurement methods meet the needs of modern, fast-paced manufacturing environments that have varying requirements.

In absolute mode, the Equator-X measurement system measures parts at a scanning speed of up to 250 mm/s. This significantly increases testing capacity and throughput, especially for small to medium batch sizes and large component variance. This mode is particularly suitable for initial inspection next to the machine or even for 100% inline inspection.

In comparative mode, the Equator-X measurement system delivers an ultra-fast scanning speed of up to 500 mm/s. This makes it ideal for testing large batches of the same components, where cycle time is a priority. Additionally, a high-speed measurement option is available for environments where fluctuating thermal conditions pose a challenge.

Innovative Technology and Versatile Software Platform

The Equator-X 500 measurement system is based on a hexapod structure with decoupled drive and measurement elements. The high movement speed without compromising measurement technology is achieved through design features such as carbon fiber measurement arms, linear motor drives, and the industry-proven measurement probe system SP25.

The measuring device can be used independently in the production environment or integrated into a fully automated cell. This allows for exceptionally high adaptability to changing requirements and varying conditions in manufacturing.

The standard software platform for the new Equator-X 500 measurement system features an intuitive user interface with broad functionality, coupled with the current MODUSTM IM measurement software from Renishaw. The comprehensive software solution supports programming, reporting, and operation with high user-friendliness and stable performance. It simplifies complex tasks and enhances the user experience.

The Equator-X testing system will be presented for the first time at EMO 2025 in Hanover (Renishaw GmbH, Hall 5, Stand D06).
