With the Tiger·tec Gold grade WPP35G, Walter introduces new indexable inserts specifically for rough milling of steel and cast materials. Compared to other milling grades in this application area, the new grade significantly increases performance, particularly in terms of tool life, process reliability, and wear resistance. Here, the WPP35G outperforms comparable grades in steel by an average of 35% and in cast materials by around 15%. The core of the Tiger·tec® Gold grade WPP35G is a multilayer MT-TiCN structure with optimized elastic properties of the crystals. This achieves very high coating adhesion with high durability. The highly textured Al2O3 layer above reduces adhesion (e.g., in ISO K) and serves as a wear-resistant heat shield. The final gold-colored TiN layer optimizes wear detection.

In addition to the high 'texturing' (referring to crystals with aligned arrangement, as opposed to disordered crystals) and the multilayer structure, the multi-stage post-treatment particularly contributes to the high wear resistance of the CVD milling grade. It ensures smooth chip surfaces and improves toughness. Its high process reliability makes the WPP35G the ideal solution for low-manpower production and mass manufacturing; suitable for medium to good machining conditions, in dry machining (especially with steel) or with coolant - and in all common Walter milling machines of the M4000 Walter BLAXX and Xtra·tec XT lines. Potential application areas include general mechanical engineering, the automotive and aerospace industries, as well as the rail vehicle and energy industries.
