With the new tool campaign LOGIQUICK, ISCAR is revolutionizing not only machining but also the procurement of special tools. With iQuote, the new online configurator, users can quickly and easily design custom special tools with just a few clicks. Additionally, they reduce procurement time by about two to three weeks.

The user basically has two options to use iQuote,” explains Herbert Volk, product manager for milling at ISCAR Germany. “Either through our electronic catalog or directly via the iQuote page. Either way – the user receives their custom special tool in just a few minutes.”

In the electronic catalog, the user clicks on the 'Customize' icon for an existing standard tool. iQuote takes over all parameters, and the user can now specifically adjust properties such as corner radius, cutting length, or clearance grind. Image: Iscar

In the electronic catalog, the user clicks on the 'Customize' icon for an existing standard tool. iQuote takes over all parameters, and the user can now specifically adjust properties such as corner radius, cutting length, or clearance grind. In the second option, the user starts on ISCAR's iQuote platform and defines the tool from scratch with all relevant parameters.

The AI-powered program guides the user step by step through the configuration process in both cases, and all processes in the front and back end are fully automated.

Custom manufacturing in just a few clicks

First, the user selects their workpiece material with a mouse click and specifies the desired processing. Then they have the option to define all properties of their tool according to their preferences and requirements. 'They can determine diameter, length, and shank shape as well as the number of cutting edges, cutting length, neck clearance, cutting geometry, and corner radius,' explains Herbert Volk. 'The only limits are actually set by physics.' Once everything is adjusted accordingly, iQuote generates the finished offer within 15 to 20 seconds. 'The user receives not only a 3D view and a drawing but – and this is a real unique selling point – also the tool price displayed immediately,' says Volk.

Then everything is ready for ordering. Here, the customer has the option to provide additional information, such as component drawings, and assign their own order or item numbers. And just four to five weeks later, the customer has their finished special tool in hand. 'With iQuote, a lot of coordination effort in advance is eliminated,' says Volk. 'This allows for about two weeks to be saved in the procurement process.'

Offer is continuously expanded

'At the go-live of iQuote, we have already activated a wide range of solid carbide end mills, and gradually, more tools for turning, milling, and drilling will follow in the coming months,' Volk looks to the future. 'Additionally, we plan to reduce the delivery time in the medium term to three to four weeks – including shipping time.'
